FreeChrome and Firefox extension

Edit PDFs without uploading them

PDF Editor opens PDFs right in your browser. Retype their text, highlight and comment, fill in forms and sign, then reorder, merge or split pages and save a standard PDF that opens in any reader. Your documents never leave your device.

Coming soon to the Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons.

How it works

  1. Install PDF Editor. From then on, PDF links open in the editor instead of your browser's own viewer.

  2. To edit a file from your computer, click the PDF Editor button and pick it, or drag it into the editor.

  3. Pick a tab: Edit to retype text, Comment to highlight and add notes, Insert for signatures, stamps and page numbers, Pages to reorder, merge or split.

  4. Press Ctrl+S (Cmd+S on a Mac) to save a standard PDF. Your original stays as it was unless you choose to save over it.

What it does

  • Edit the PDF's own text

Click a line to retype it in place: fix a typo, a name, a date or an amount. The new text keeps the document's font, size and color, and Delete removes text from the page instead of covering it.

  • Annotate and review

Highlight in five colors, underline, strike out, add sticky notes, text boxes, drawings, shapes and arrows. One panel lists every comment by page.

  • Fill in and sign

Type into form fields, tick boxes, add today's date, and sign with a drawn, typed or uploaded signature that's kept on your device for next time.

  • Organize pages

Drag thumbnails to reorder pages. Rotate, duplicate, crop and delete them, or insert blank ones.

  • Merge, split, extract

Add another PDF, pull pages into a new file, or split a document every few pages, at chosen pages or at its bookmarks.

  • Stamps and page numbers

APPROVED, DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL or your own stamps, page numbers, headers, footers, Bates numbers and watermarks.

  • Images on the page

Move, resize, rotate, replace or delete the PDF's own images, insert your own, or paste a screenshot straight onto the page.

  • Opens PDFs for you

PDF links open in the editor, password-protected and very large files too. Turn this off or exclude sites in Settings.

  • Never lose an edit

Unlimited undo. If the tab closes or crashes, reopen the PDF to get your unsaved changes back.
