HTML/CSS Extractor privacy policy
HTML/CSS Extractor is a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that shows the HTML and CSS of the element you select in the browser’s developer tools.
What HTML/CSS Extractor reads
The extension works only inside the developer tools, in its own pane of the Elements panel (the Inspector in Firefox). When you select an element there, it reads, from the page you’re inspecting:
- The element’s HTML, including everything inside it.
- The CSS rules from the page’s stylesheets that apply to the element and its children, and, if you turn them on,
@font-facerules and styles inherited from parent elements. - The page’s address, to turn relative links into full ones and to skip browser pages it can’t read.
The result is shown in the pane and is not saved.
What HTML/CSS Extractor stores
Only your six extraction settings, such as “Simplify Selectors” and “@font-face”. They are kept in the extension’s local storage in your browser.
What HTML/CSS Extractor sends
Nothing. The extension has no account, no analytics and no tracking, and it doesn’t send what it reads to us or anyone else. We never receive the code you extract or your browsing activity.
The live preview shows the extracted code in a frame where scripts can’t run. Images and fonts the code refers to load from the addresses in the code, usually the website you’re inspecting, the same way they load on that page.
Clipboard
HTML/CSS Extractor writes to your clipboard only when you click “Copy CSS” or “Copy HTML”.
Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Access to all websites | Read the selected element’s HTML and styles on whichever website you’re inspecting |
Developer tools (devtools_page) | Add the HTML/CSS Extractor pane to the Elements panel (the Inspector in Firefox) |
scripting | Run the code that reads an element’s HTML and styles in the page you’re inspecting |
activeTab | Work with the tab you’re inspecting |
tabs (Firefox only) | Check the address of the tab you’re inspecting, so the extension doesn’t try to run on browser pages |
Deleting your data
