Scrollshot privacy policy
Scrollshot is a browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox that captures screenshots of web pages, lets you mark them up, and saves them as images or PDFs. Your screenshots never leave your device.
What Scrollshot reads
Scrollshot works on a page only after you start a capture there: by clicking its toolbar icon or a menu item, or by pressing one of its keyboard shortcuts. It then reads:
- What the tab shows, its size and its scroll position, to capture the visible area or scroll through the page and stitch it into one image.
- The page’s address, title and icon, to name the file and show the capture in your history.
- Where the links are on the page, so a PDF can keep them clickable.
While capturing, Scrollshot scrolls the page and hides sticky headers, chat widgets and scrollbars for a moment. The page is put back the way it was when the capture ends. Scrollshot doesn’t read your browsing history, cookies or passwords, and it doesn’t run on pages where you haven’t started a capture.
What Scrollshot stores
Everything below stays in your browser’s local extension storage on your device and is never uploaded:
- Your captures: the images, your annotations, the page’s address, title and icon, and the capture date. The free version keeps your 25 most recent captures plus up to 5 starred ones.
- Your settings, such as the default file format, capture options and theme.
- Your plan (Free or Pro) and, if you activate Pro, the license described below.
Scrollshot doesn’t use browser sync.
What Scrollshot sends
Your screenshots, the pages you capture and your browsing activity never leave your browser. Scrollshot has no analytics, no tracking, no ads and no third-party scripts, and you don’t need an account. Without Pro, the extension makes no network requests at all.
Files you download or copy are saved or copied by your browser like any other download or copy. After that, they’re yours to manage.
Pro
Pro isn’t available yet: this version of Scrollshot can’t activate it. When it can, activating Pro works like this:
- You enter your email address and a code we email you, or a license key from support. Scrollshot creates a device key in your browser and sends max7up.com only its public part, so your license works in this browser.
- About once a day, when you open Scrollshot, it checks your license with max7up.com. It never sends your screenshots, page content, browsing data or files.
- max7up.com stores your email address, your purchases, and the browsers you activated (the public key, a label such as “Chrome on Windows”, and when each was first and last seen).
- Purchases are processed by Paddle, our reseller and merchant of record, under Paddle’s own privacy policy. We use your email only to sign you in and manage your purchases.
In Firefox, the browser asks you to allow sending your email address and sign-in details when you start activating Pro, never before.
Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
activeTab | Capture the tab you’re on, only after you click the icon, a menu item or press a shortcut. Scrollshot asks for no access to websites in advance. |
scripting | Load Scrollshot’s capture script into that tab when you start a capture. It measures and scrolls the page, shows the progress and a Stop button, and puts the page back afterwards. |
storage | Keep your settings, and the progress of a running capture, on your device |
unlimitedStorage | Keep full-page screenshots, which can be large, in your browser so you can find them again in History |
contextMenus | Add the capture modes to the right-click menu, and “Stop capture” while one is running |
downloads (optional) | Asked only when you save into a folder inside Downloads. With it, Scrollshot can also show a saved file in its folder. Without it, files are saved as normal browser downloads. |
clipboardWrite (optional) | Asked only when you turn on copying each capture to the clipboard automatically. The Copy button works without it. |
Deleting your data
Delete captures in History, or use “Delete all captures” in Settings. Removing the extension deletes everything it stored. If you activated Pro, deactivate this browser in Settings → Account and email us to remove your data from max7up.com.
Children
Scrollshot isn’t directed at children under 13 and doesn’t knowingly collect data from them.
