Encrypted notes and private links

Private Stash is a side panel for the notes and links nobody else should see, locked with one master password and encrypted on your device. No account needed, and it isn't a password manager.

Shortcut: Alt+Shift+S

How it works

  1. Click the Private Stash icon or press Alt+Shift+S to open the side panel (a sidebar in Firefox).

  2. Create a master password. It encrypts everything, and it can't be recovered, so keep it safe.

  3. Write notes in Markdown and save links: the current tab, or any page or link from the right-click menu.

  4. Lock it with Alt+Shift+L, or let it lock itself. Nothing is readable until you enter the password again.

What it does

  • Encrypted on your device

Every note and link is encrypted with Argon2id and AES-256-GCM before it's saved. Your master password never leaves the device.

  • Notes in Markdown

Headings, lists, tables and links. Notes save as you type.

  • Private links

Keep links in your stash instead of your bookmarks, and open them in a private window so they stay out of your history too.

  • Locks itself

After the inactivity time you pick, when the browser restarts and, by default, when you close the panel. Wrong passwords add a growing delay.

  • Find anything

Ctrl+K searches titles, notes, links and tags, and forgives typos. The search index lives in memory and is wiped on lock.

  • Folders, tags and pins

Sort items into folders and tags and pin the ones you need most. A deleted item can be brought back with Undo.

  • Not a password manager

It warns you when a note looks like a password, a card number or a recovery phrase. No autofill and no password generator, on purpose.

  • Encrypted backups

Download an encrypted copy of your stash at any time. A reminder appears if you haven't made one in 30 days.
