Quintet – Themes for YouTube is a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that changes how YouTube looks: colors, fonts, spacing and layout.
What we collect
Nothing. Quintet has no account, no analytics, no crash reports, no ads and no tracking, and it makes no network requests. It doesn’t collect, sell or share any data about you. All its code ships inside the extension: it loads no remote code, scripts, fonts or stylesheets.
What stays on your device
- Your settings: the theme you chose, whether Quintet is on, videos per row, accent color, spacing, text size, corner radius, the optional day and night schedule, your saved looks (their names and colors) and any custom CSS you type in.
- A style cache: style rules Quintet generates so themes load quickly on your next visit. It holds color values from YouTube’s own public stylesheets, nothing about you.
This is kept in your browser’s extension storage on your device.
What Quintet does on YouTube
Quintet runs only on www.youtube.com, where it applies the theme. It doesn’t read or change your videos, comments, account, watch history or anything you type.
- Custom CSS is applied only on YouTube. Remote files and web addresses in it (such as @import and url(https://…)) are removed or ignored, so it can’t make Quintet contact anyone.
- A second small script runs inside YouTube’s page only to switch off a few of YouTube’s layout tests while you have the experimental classic watch layout turned on. It reads no page data and sends nothing.
The toolbar popup
The popup looks at the address of the tab you have open, only to know whether it’s a YouTube page and which kind (home, watch, search, channel and so on). That address is never stored or sent anywhere.
“Something looks wrong” opens an email in your own mail app. Nothing is sent unless you send it. It contains only the extension’s version, your browser’s name and version, and the kind of page, never the page’s address or content.
Browser sync and backups
- Browser sync (optional, off by default). If you turn on “Sync settings across devices”, your settings, saved looks and custom CSS are copied to your browser’s own sync storage (Chrome Sync or Firefox Sync), under the account you’re signed in to the browser with. The developer never receives them.
- Backups. Exporting your settings saves a file wherever you choose, and importing reads a file you pick. Both happen in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
storage | Your settings and the style cache, and optional sync |
Access to www.youtube.com | Apply the theme on YouTube pages. No other site is accessed |
Quintet doesn’t ask for access to your tabs, your history, your cookies or any other site.
Deleting your data
“Reset to defaults” in Quintet’s settings removes your settings, saved looks and custom CSS. Removing the extension deletes everything it stored in your browser.
Children
Quintet collects no data from anyone, including children.
